On January 5th, 2009, I entered the entrepreneurial world with one thought, to get out of Corporate Canada. By this time I had 27 years of the corporate world and was totally disenchanted with the office politics.
I spent the first 5 years without much directions even though I had made contact and was working with someone who was considered by many to be an expert and great mentor. Unfortunately for me, that was not the case, and it took me 5 years to see through the mask.
Being an entrepreneur is not an easy task, especially if you do not have any experience or experienced people in your life to help you along. The field I entered, finances, is ripe with deception, high competition, and sharks (everyone wanting to sell you their services for a fee). Add to that, the new “Do Not Call” legislation and a minute circle of influence, and you have a tough road ahead.
I love helping people become financially independent. My reward comes from the seeing the positive effects in my clients’ lives as they implement the financial and sometimes not financial strategies which I recommend to them. For this reason, I persevere and stay loyal to a career I started thirty-seven years ago.
Since beginning my degree program in January 2018, I have been looking forward to learning and implementing the principles and strategies into my business. I just had this overwhelming feeling that this was the path that would lead me to success. That feel was right on – from the moment I began reading “The Ministry of Business”, I knew I was on the right path.
The interesting thing is, I have always been on the right path, but I was not aware of it. So far in this course (Introduction to Entrepreneurship), I have discovered that I have little confidence in my abilities (I am skillful). I was also a procrastinator (I say was because I am now living a purposeful life). Of the eight books, Jim Ritchie mentioned in the video “Launching Leaders” that were influential in his personal and business life, I have read five of (I have to revisit each of those books and purchase the ones I have not already read).
For the first time in the past nine years, I feel empowered with a strong team of mentors encircling me. I have come to realize that I need to believe in myself; to view this life as an adventure and become an entrepreneurial hero; and I need to choose my friends wisely – people of excellent character – people who love me – people I love.
I look forward to this journey with great anticipation – not to get to the end for there is no end, but rather for the great adventure it is.
